If the food alone wasn't enough to make me feel glad to be back in Bangkok, sights like this were.

Bangkok Snapshot: Abandoned Fruitstand.

During the day, mobile fruit stands offer chilled refreshment from the steaming streets of Bangkok. At night, they appear as strange lanterns, the icy glass boxes glowing in the hues of tropical fruit.

Editor's Note: I wanted to mention that I am also providing writing and photography for a local blog, called My BKK. It focuses on the eccentricity of life in Bangkok, which is a nearly inexhuaustable subject. The entries take a similar format to my "Bangkok Snapshots," and focus on all aspects of daily culture in the Thai capital.

I would also like to thank Write to Travel, for featuring me as the Travelblog of the Week. I'm always surprised to find that anyone other than my boyfriend actually looks at this blog, so I was thrilled by the honor.

Bangkok Snapshot: Curbside jack-fruit.

One of the more surreal aspects of passing a major produce market on the route to work is the unexpected appearance of a mountain of primeval fruit in an otherwise conventional setting.

Bangkok Snapshot: Satay Seller on Rama IV

I eat breakfast every morning, so I'm never hungry on the way to work. But even so, the smoke coming from this woman's grill- heavy with the warm exotic scent of charcoal and spices- always smell tempting.

Bangkok Snapshot: Pineapple truck.

As the sun faded over the umbrellas and stands of the Khlong Toei market, I noticed this guy picking pineapples one by one out of an open truck. The light hit him perfectly- bathing him in a golden shine that made him match his pineapples.

Bangkok Snapshot: Legs up in Pattpong.

Pattpong is known mainly for it's burlesque shows, creepy Western men, and illicit tradings, but it was the sprawling sidewalk market that drew Bordeaux and I to the neighborhood. There, one can buy cheap t-shirts, tacky souvenirs, and a wide range of illegal DVDs. It can also be good place for some intriguing sights, like these bags of legs that Bordeaux spotted down a dank alley.

Bangkok Snapshot: Green Tea Table

Some of the more prosperous street-side stands have their own low tables, where patrons can uncomfortably sit while enjoying their tea. I loved the pattern on this one; it wouldn't go with my apartment, but I wish I could this as my coffee table.

Bangkok Snapshot: Thong Lo color.

Yesterday Bordeaux and I explored Thong Lo, an upscale Bangkok avenue featuring design stores, coffee shops, and numerous sois lined with boutique shops. I was on a search for color, and loved the combination of gold leaves and fallen pink petals through this aquamarine gate.

Apparently displaced spirits aren't the only ones who enjoy finger bananas and red Fanta.

Bangkok Snapshot: Blurred Tuk-Tuk, Banglamphu.

This is a fairly commonplace image from Bangkok, taken in the neighborhood of Banglamphu. I was drawn to this wall for the contrast between the orderly windows and the chaotic paint job; it looked almost as though a child had gotten to the wall, and scrawled all over it with a set of crayons.
