In transit.

We're getting used to living out of our backpacks.

In April, Bordeaux and I gave notice at work, and as of May 11, we left our jobs as English teachers in Bangkok. We decided to leave our jobs for a variety of reasons, but I think our decision reflected a desire to make some changes in our lifestyle. We were living in one of the most amazing cities in one of the most incredible regions of the world, and yet we were spending most of our time in an environment that we didn't like.

Surprisingly, we've been far busier since we left work. We've both had family visit, we've travelled around Thailand to Sangkhlaburi, Khao Sok, Krabi, and Ko Samet, crossed the border to Cambodia, and we've been swamped in work as we try to piece together a living from freelance writing, tutoring, and travel research.

And it seems to continue from here. Currently on the agenda for the future is spending July and August teaching in Taiwan. Once that is over, we need to decide how long we want to stay in Thailand, and where we want to go next. As much as I am tempted to return to Los Angeles or Cape Town (or to try a new part of the world), I still feel there's so much I want to see and do in Southeast Asia that I'm not ready to leave yet.

What about South Asia? Nepal would be so amazing right now. And of course India!

Hello again, Guys!
I know exactly how you feel.
I'm now in Virginia visiting family and love being back here, but am not completely ready to move back here. When I go back to Korea in September I just want it to be for two months (to complete my book) then move on to another great location. Asia is amazing! I'm thinking Turkey would be ideal.
I wish you all the best!

Sincerely,

Felicia

Ooh, I like these reflective photos... looks like you're giving it some serious thought indeed. What about Vietnam?

I'm just catching up on your blog now... we've been on the road in Calabria with little internet access... so hopefully somewhere there you'll tell us about the freelance writing you've been doing. Let me know if you need any contacts or tips.

Congratulations on your willingness to move and be open to new places and things. I am sure where ever you end up, it will be fascinating and hopefully you'll keep sharing with us.

I did pop over to tell you that I gave you a little award today. You can see what it is on my blog. ;-)

It really is a remarkable part of the world. Wishing you both all good things and look forward to seeing where you eventually land.

Best of luck on your decisions! I can see why it would be so hard to leave SE Asia. Because I'm vicariously living your lives through your blog, I have to admit I'm not ready for you to leave SE Asia either :-)

Hey - very exciting. Very best wishes to you both! I understand where you're at... we are also working to effect some major changes in our lives in the next few months.
I gotta second Istanbul. Turkey is an amazing place, the place we'd like to go to from here. I loved it so much after our first visit I spent the next three years learning Turkish! :-)
Eat well in Taiwan ...

I can't agree more with your predicament in Bangkok. It's a monster of a city with so much to see and do, yet for me, living there was rife with unpleasantness. Good luck with your evolving plans. I'll be curious to see how they shape up.

I love that you've because busier after leaving your jobs. I often ponder what my life would be like without mine. Not quite there yet myself, but inspiring to see others doing it, and well :)
