The Ethnographer's Messenger Bag.

The ethnographer lives in two worlds; he divides his time between academia, and life in the field. This valise, designed for me by Bordeaux, is versatile enough to fit both. The exterior is a serious brown suiting, while the interior reveals a bold exotic stripe. It's designed vertically, so that notebooks can be quickly grabbed from the divided interior. Though it has a stylishly thin silhouette, it's wide enough to hold my camera and a few choice paperback ethnographies. It even has a special slim pocket on the back, perfect for holding airplane tickets or folded maps. View more photos and read more about it at his blog.

I may have already mentioned that Paul and I spent some time in Thailand two years ago and fell utterly in love. I've been wanting to ask you if you ever go to Ricky's cafe, but having just taken a tour of Bordeaux's (great!) blog, I saw his recipe for banana french toast from Ricky's! Ah, we have to go back there soon!
Have a great weekend,
Heather

Yes, Ricky's is definitely a favorite stop of ours when we're in that part of town. They make great breakfasts- their muesli with a mix of fresh tropical fruit and toasted coconut is a favorite of mine. When we decided to come back to Bangkok to look for work, Ricky's was one of the places I was most looking forward to revisiting! -X

I used to design a range a ladies handbags, I miss it very very much. The humble messenger bag has always appealed to me. I hope that my future involves creating a range. Thanks for reminding me of the things I love. Also well done to the creator I love the brown fabric.

I had that breakfast too! Just before we left Bangkok, we sat on the mezzanine above the kitchen and watched VERY carefully how they made their Phad Thai. It was the best one by far we had in our whole visit and thanks to our careful notetaking, Paul can now make a pretty good facsimile. Lucky us.
